Adiala Jail is actually Central Jail Rawalpindi and it is called Adiala Jail because a village Adiala in Rawalpindi district is located at a distance of about four kilometers from it hence its name Adiala Jail.
This Jail is situated near village Dehgal at a distance of about 13 km from District Courts on Rawalpindi Adiala Road and is the old District Jail Rawalpindi.
It was built in the late 1970s and early 1980s during the regime of Pakistan's military dictator General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq.

Earlier, the district jail of Rawalpindi was located at the place where Jinnah Park is located today and it was the same jail in which former Prime Minister of the country Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was imprisoned during the regime of military dictator General Ziaul Haq and was hanged adjacent to this jail. He was also hanged at the ghat.
In the years following the execution of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, this jail was dismantled and a park was built here and in 1986 the jail was shifted to Adiala.
